SintLucas x GLOW
From 9 to 16 November, Eindhoven will be all about GLOW. Students from various courses at SintLucas will work together on six impressive projects throughout the city. In the past period and this week, students and teachers are working very hard to dot the ‘i’s’. A unique and special opportunity for students to show their talent. A learning process in both preparation, construction, application of new programmes and techniques, cooperation with companies and students from other courses.
Third-year student Dewi van den Broek of the programme All-round stage & event technician is project leader of the Portals project at Central Station: “I learned a lot. You have to think about literally everything; from managing all the students from different courses, making plans and quotations to going along to safety meetings. I think it’s cool to see that we make each other even more creative, because we all think in a different way. That comes together well. I am proud of what we have put up and hope visitors will find it cool too.”
Student Mark Hultermans works on the Student Mappington project on the Kleine Berg and attended special master classes last week. “I think the preparations are super fun. Especially to really think along at the beginning of the process how we can get all the ideas working. Now I find it a cool challenge to also implement and set everything up the way we thought it up.”

Project 1. Market, GLOW on Air, Studio 040
During GLOW 2024, with the theme The Stream, countless stories created during the light festival will literally be put in the spotlight. Have you always dreamed of a moment of fame? This is your chance! After all, you can share your story with us and who knows, we might invite you to visit the studio.
Studio040 brings the magic of GLOW straight to your home, with live broadcasts in sound and vision for eight days. In the mobile studio on the Markt in Eindhoven, cosiness, atmosphere, light art and you as a visitor come together in special broadcasts. With live reports, interviews with visitors and artists and fascinating collaborations from the city, Studio040 takes you into the heart of GLOW. Students from the Audiovisual Specialist course create the images of this special livestream.

Project 5. Little Mountain, Mappington student
Get carried away by the flow of Eindhoven and discover the city’s story through the ages. The journey begins in the Ice Age, where meltwater and rain together formed the basis of the Dommel, the river that would later serve as Eindhoven’s lifeline.
This river fed agriculture, stimulated crafts and eventually energised the industrial growth that made Eindhoven flourish. Today, we celebrate city life on Kleine Berg – an atmospheric street where history meets modernity.
Come along and experience Eindhoven’s rich history through the eyes of young creators. This light show invites visitors to reflect on Eindhoven’s origins and experience and appreciate city life today.

Project 13. New Emmasingel, Blobs
SintLucas students from the Media Design programme investigated the movement and shapes of drops at the GLOW Academy. There they designed the Blobs, each with its own unique shape and ‘life’. These vibrant, slimy entities radiate light in a way that is both enchanting and inviting. As you approach, the colours of the Blobs change, as if they are responding to your presence. This artwork asks questions about our dealings with unknown life forms and the world around us. It challenges you to experiment with these alien objects. How do they react to your approach? What happens when you get closer? Let your curiosity run wild and discover the secrets the Blobs hide!

Project 22. Fontys & SintLucas Aurora
Dancing streams like the Northern Lights. With colour, light and flowing movements in the sky, you have a miracle on your hands. Making a copy of the Northern Lights is an almost impossible goal; natural phenomena are most special when you can experience the original. Still, you can evoke the feeling that such a miracle brings. A special and first collaboration between HBO & MBO.

Project 31. Eindhoven Central Station, Portals, SintLucas & NS
In the GLOW Academy, students from SintLucas worked with mentors and light artists to develop this concept. Their light artwork is inspired by an old dot map – an iconic and everyday object that symbolises movement and connection. The dot map, although two-dimensional, impressively depicts the flow of people and trains, as is common in public transport worldwide.
With the artwork “Portals”, the students invite visitors to think about the interconnectedness between people. Just as train lines symbolise a journey, we are all part of a larger flow of innovation and creativity. This light artwork invites us to reflect on how we collectively contribute to this movement and reminds us that every small step counts in a larger journey. Visit Portals in the station hall of Centraal Station Eindhoven and experience how art, technology and creativity flow together, even on the road.
Photography student Thijn Vorstenbosch made these beautiful images of the light artworks:
