Counselling
Your school time is all about developing, discovering and learning. For this, you need to feel safe in an environment where people interact in a pleasant way and pupils respect each other.
SintLucas pays a lot of attention to guiding you. Problems with the class, yourself, your studies or for example at home, it’s all open for discussion at school. You can always go to someone you feel comfortable with.
Mentor
The mentor is your first point of contact. He is the link between you, teachers and your parent(s)/carer(s). If you want to discuss anything personal, you can go to him. Besides giving you confidence, he will also check with you on your progress, motivation, attendance and so on.
Each week you will have one mentor hour and one LOB (career, orientation and guidance) hour. During the mentoring hour, attention is paid to planning and organising, but also to creating a close-knit group that treats each other with respect. During the LOB hour, your career is discussed. What are your ambitions, your qualities and what makes you happy.

Pupil supervisors
SintLucas vmbo has two student counsellors (one for the junior and one for the senior years). If you have a problem that the mentor cannot solve, the student counsellor will step in. Together with you and your mentor, she will look for a suitable solution.
If help is needed from outside the school, we will arrange it. The pupil supervisor does this in consultation with our support coordinator.

Teaching assistants
If you find it difficult to plan or learn than, you can take study or structure guidance from our teaching assistants. One-to-one, they will then teach you how best to plan, for example. They also run a homework class every afternoon after school. You can always join this if you enjoy doing your homework at school.
Coach
If you structurally need more support than your mentor can offer you, you can get help from one of our coaches. This usually concerns pupils who have some form of learning or behavioural problem. One hour a week, you will have a meeting with your coach, who will help you with all kinds of issues. This is always tailor-made and coordinated together with your parent(s)/carer(s) and your mentor.
If you want to see the total overview of our guidance line, we refer you to our School Support Profile (SOP). Here we describe very precisely who all works within the guidance line and what exactly they do.

Facilities
Do you have a (learning) problem such as dyscalculia, dyslexia or ADHD? Then facilities can be requested. We always do this in consultation with you. After all, you know best what will help you. Examples include giving extra time for tests and exams or using a laptop in class. The exact procedure and possibilities are listed in the facilities policy. More information can be found in the facilities policy document. This animated film explains how the facilities policy works.
IOV (internal support facility)
At SintLucas, we think it is important that there is always a place you can go to when things just aren’t going your way. The IOV is a room where someone from the guidance line is always present and where you can just walk in. Maybe you are (temporarily) struggling at home or have missed a lot of classes due to illness, then the IOV offers a solution. From a listening ear to a personal catch-up programme, the IOV is the right place for this.
Homework class
For all pupils of SintLucas, there is a homework class daily the 7th, 8th and 9th class hour (after regular classes). Pupils can do homework here under the supervision / guidance of teaching assistants. This can be voluntary or ‘compulsory’ in consultation with parent(s)/carer(s). There is no charge for participating in the homework class.
