Study evening 25 March

Audiovisual specialist/filmmaker

A short film, a music video, live recordings or social content. Moving images and sound are more important than ever. Do you have a feel for moving images and are you both creative and technical? Then our audiovisual programme is perfect for you

At SintLucas, we train you broadly, so that you master all facets of the audiovisual (AV) production process. There is plenty of room for your own input and creativity. In the course of the programme, you can increasingly specialise or continue to work all-round.

During our AV specialist programme, you will learn to tell stories with moving images and sound. You will make short films, corporate films, video clips, live recordings and social content. You will go through the entire production process to achieve a high-quality end product.

What am I doing?

During our audiovisual course, you start from a client’s requirements or your own idea. You then research the target group and develop a concept for the production. In the pre-production process, you start writing a scenario, make a storyboard and find a suitable location for shooting. Then the actual filming starts, you record audio and make sure the lighting is right.

In the final step of the production process, you will edit the image and sound and apply visual effects. With design and colour correction, you will put the finishing touches to the film.

What am I making?

You make that short film you’ve had in your head for a while, run a multicam project at a festival, shoot a cool music video or make a reportage for a news item. Assignments range from commercial productions and reports to autonomous work.

What am I learning?

You develop skills in research, concept development, storytelling, camera technology, sound technology, editing, broadcasting and post-production. Attention is also paid to your personal development, so that you grow as a professional and as a person. Of course, general subjects such as Dutch, English, maths and citizenship are also part of the programme.

Do I need my own AV equipment?

During the audiovisual programme, you will work on assignments from real clients or projects you bring in yourself. In the interplay between content, form and technology, you will develop a final product that powerfully conveys the message. You can borrow all AV equipment you need for this from the SintLucas AV warehouse.

Where do I do my internship?

Depending on your interests and learning wishes, you choose an internship at a video production house, a national or regional radio or television station, (such as NPO and Omroep Brabant), an advertising or animation agency, a pop podium or, for example, a facilities company. Watch a video about Lotte’s internship here and watch a video about Alysha’s internship at Riff Productions here.

What should I be able to do and like?

As an audiovisual specialist, you can tell a story. You enjoy creating things, using AV software and equipment. You have an inquisitive attitude, like to experiment, dare to make mistakes and come up with original solutions. You also have a good sense of communication and can empathise with the target group. You are a real team player and want to create a beautiful end product together. In addition, you like variety and enjoy being on the road.

What can I do after SintLucas?

After your audiovisual studies, you may continue to work at your work placement company as an audiovisual designer, cameraman or in editing. You can also start your own company. During the study programme, you will develop a large network of fellow students, companies and specialists that you will benefit from later in your work or as a freelancer. It is also an option to continue your studies at higher vocational education level. Think about the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht the Ritcs in Brussels or the Film Academy in Amsterdam.

Former student Rick Leenes studied Audiovisual Specialist at SintLucas and now works as a cameraman at Omroep Brabant in Son. Watch his story here.

Extra challenge?

Then you can opt for the Bachelor programme Visual Communication from the third year onwards. You will then get your mbo diploma and British Bachelor in four years. Click here for more information.

How does application and admission work?

You will apply for the programme of your choice via our website from 1 November 2024. After your application, you will receive an invitation for a matching interview at SintLucas. During an interview with a teacher and student from the study programme of your choice, together we will see if you and SintLucas are a match. Above all, we have an open and relaxed conversation, so you can make a good study choice. In preparation for the interview, you can bring (creative) work with you. It is also possible to make an assignment. After the interview, you will receive a study advice. This advice can be positive (we think you fit in with SintLucas and the study programme) or negative (we think another school and study programme would suit you better). Even with a negative recommendation, you are admissible at SintLucas. We trust that with our advice you will make a good study choice. Read more about application and admission here.

If you have a question about this, please send an e-mail to aanmelding@sintlucas.nl.
