What am I making?
As an Immersive experience student, you will learn to create experiences for different applications and platforms. Think of virtual productions that combine the digital and real world. For example: a virtual escaperoom, a fashion show with holograms or an art installation in a museum. You can also work on film productions using new media such as real-time 3D. For companies, for example, you develop virtual training rooms to learn how to work with complicated machines, and in hospitals it is used for practising operations.
What am I learning?
During the programme, you will not only learn to work with a wide range of interactive techniques, but you will also learn to tell a catchy story. Therefore, knowledge of psychology, colour theory and storytelling is also important. You will develop your ideas for your application and always put yourself in the user’s shoes to create a good experience. To realise your concept, you will use 3D interactive software (Unreal Engine and Blender), among others. You will also work with, for instance, space sensors (physical computing) to develop interaction in space. Besides vocational subjects, the programme also includes Dutch, English, maths and citizenship.
Where do I do my internship?
You will do your traineeship at leading companies throughout the Netherlands. From the Mediapark in Hilversum to a design studio in Eindhoven. There, you will work in a team of specialists to devise and realise immersive experiences for real clients. You will put the knowledge you have into practice and learn from your colleagues in the field of technology, design and user experiences to build impressive experiences.
What can I do after SintLucas?
There is high demand for immersive specialists in various fields. After your studies, you can work for various companies in the creative and technology sector. Besides companies specialising in realising immersive experiences, media companies, game studios and event organisations are also among the possibilities. For example, as an immersive designer, VR developer or technician in the field of physical computing. If you prefer to work for yourself, there are also many opportunities for self-employed people. If you prefer to continue studying, you can opt for a higher vocational programme in the field of, for instance, interactive media, game design or development or spatial design.
What should I be able to do and like?
Developing and building immersive experiences requires a team of professionals from different fields. You are therefore a team player who enjoys working with, for example, audiovisual designers, software developers, media designers and spatial designers. Naturally, you are curious about new technologies and their use and enjoy delving into complex issues with a large dose of creativity. Finally, you are flexible, a go-getter and someone who enjoys learning and experimenting.
