Second- and third-year students of the Creative Craftsman Ceramics course visit star chef Jermain de Rozario.
We think it is important for our students and our teaching to show many different perspectives. By working with special inspirations from other professions, students are challenged not to keep doing the same tomorrow as they are doing today. The project with celebrity chef Jermain de Rozario ties in perfectly with this. He took the students through his views on the importance of tableware on a dish during a visit to his starred restaurant. He also inspired and motivated the students with the story of the path he has taken to where he is today.
Students of Creative Craftsman Ceramics get to work making tableware. At the end of the module, Jermain visits the ceramics workshop to watch the final results. A wonderful project for students, which they are very enthusiastic about.
Important lessons
Anne: “This is really a dream project. I got so much inspiration during this visit. I was able to learn a lot, including what drives him to be so successful. Believing in yourself and persevering are important lessons that I take with me. And extra cool that during the visit we also got to taste some dishes and he took extensive time for us.”
Unique project
Maud: “The project is unique, where your creativity can be put to full use. The idea behind the tableware is very important. The tableware has to be able to tell a story that draws the consumer in. The craziest ideas are possible and I am very curious to see what everyone will make. Jermain spoke in an accessible way about his vision in his company but also in his life. Very inspiring.”
Source of inspiration
Kyra: “I really find this a fascinating and interesting project. Very special that we were allowed to look on location for inspiration. We literally tasted the atmosphere. The story behind the chef, where you can get inspiration from and how important it is that everything is right from A to Z are important things that I take with me while making the products.”

More on Star Chef Jermain Rozario
“We take inspiration from the everyday and try to make every visit feel like the first time. Innovative, but also deliciously familiar. With inspiration from Asian cuisine, where Indonesia in particular has a special place. But our inspiration also comes from Helmond, and especially from our own vegetable garden. Seeing the process from A to Z is satisfying and also adds a lot more flavour. Be surprised and enjoy.”
