It’s almost here: Skills The Finals! Student Evi Mooren may represent our Media Design programme at this professional competition on 21 and 22 March in the Brabanthallen in Den Bosch. Student Bente also participated in the qualification rounds. We spoke to Evi and Bente about their experiences.

Extra challenge

Evi and Bente both graduated from the Media Design course last year and subsequently decided to take the All-round media maker course. This way, they obtained two diplomas in five years. Evi: “During the All-round media maker course, you immerse yourself even more in technical programmes such as Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator.” Bente: “I like to be extra challenged during my training and that’s why I wanted to take part in Skills Heroes.” Evi concurs: “I also thought the network you can build through participating in Skills Heroes was very valuable. You come into contact with other creative students and professionals.”

Qualifying competition

During the preliminaries for the qualifying competition at school, Evi achieved first place and was allowed to go to the Skills Heroes qualifying competition at Vista College in Sittard on behalf of SintLucas. Bente achieved second place. Evi: “During the qualifying competition, we were given the assignment to create a logo and film teaser for a tattoo festival within a certain time.” The aim of the assignment was to trigger interested parties to buy a ticket for this festival. Evi: “After hearing the results, I was really super happy to hear that I got through to the finals of Skills Heroes! The nice thing about the assignment was that I got to edit a video as well as a logo. I already have experience with this, but because it happens a little less often at school, I really enjoyed this as an assignment.”

Preparation

In the coming time, Evi will be busy preparing for the Skills Heroes finals. Evi: “I have made several practice assignments and discussed them with teachers to prepare myself for the final. I already know a little bit what to expect because I have already received the briefing of the final assignment. I really like the assignment and am looking forward to doing something with it!”

Future plans

After their training at SintLucas, Bente and Evi want to continue their own company together. Bente: “We think it would be great fun to expand our own company Studio Yeb. Studio Yeb is a graphic design company. The nice thing is that Evi and I reinforce and complement each other. That’s why we can work together so well.” With their own company, the students would like to be able to say “yes” to their clients’ wishes and questions, hence the name Studio Yeb. A great ambition!
