Equal opportunities for mbo
This theme was the focus of the Eindhoven municipality’s ’together for MBO’ conference. In our school building, students, educational institutions, leading representatives from the business community and the government came together in action by talking the talk. That students value this was reflected in the high turnout.
Over 700 mbo students from Eindhoven completed a survey prior to the event. This showed, for instance, that they experience a difference compared to their hbo or wo students when it comes to getting hired for an internship, advantages in sports facilities, public transport, finding a student room, participating in the introduction week, etc. This needs to change now.
During the conference, important topics were discussed in both central panel discussions and in smaller groups with, among others, Mayor of the Municipality of Eindhoven Jeroen Dijsselbloem, Alderman Monique Esselbrugge, Arianne Bijma, Rob Bloks, Lianne Savelberg – van den Wittenboer and Adnan Tekin.
This initiative of the municipality, was organised in cooperation with De Rooi Pannen, Summa College and SintLucas. With the insights gained, the Eindhoven municipality will actively work to develop policies to significantly increase the equality of opportunities for MBO students in Eindhoven in the near future.
