SintLucas is the first MBO in the southern Netherlands to start developing Immersive Technology. We do this together with five leading intermediate vocational schools and twenty-two Dutch media, game and entertainment companies in the national consortium OASIS. This major national cooperation, which focuses on training Dutch specialists in immersive technology for which there is a great need, is supported by a subsidy from the Regional Investment Fund mbo.
OASIS, which stands for Organised Advancement of Specialists in Immersive Solutions, responds to this by bringing education and business together. Director of SintLucas Ruud Rabelink tells more about the importance of this cooperation and development.
Broad application of immersive solutions
“The developments around digitalisation and virtualisation, specifically the emergence of immersive technologies, are creating a profession around the field of immersive solutions. The immersive solutions are an answer to complex societal challenges. These immersive technologies, such as VR, AR, MR and 360-degree video (often bundled as XR), transcend the boundaries of conventional displays and offer immersive, interactive experiences. Immersive technologies are crucial for education, training and realistic interactive simulations, among others, and find wide application in various (deficit) sectors including education, healthcare, construction, real estate and architecture. The professional group (the implementers) of immersive solutions are particularly in the creative sector which includes the media, gaming and entertainment sectors.”
New Immersive design course to start in 2025
“It makes sense that SintLucas, as a leading professional institute for creativity, is stepping in here as a ‘first mover’ with these developments. We are doing this on several fronts. In a partnership with the business community, we will develop and build a new training course. It will start in August 2025: Immersive experience. In addition, with SintLucas’ expertise centre, we are also focusing on research to increase knowledge about the field of XR and realise intensive cooperation with the business community.”

Immersive design in education
“The teaching material and experiences we gain from the Immersive design course are also incorporated into other courses. By doing so, we keep all courses current from an inkblot effect of Immersive design. This is necessary to meet the challenges of the rapidly changing society.”
Immersive academy
“We also offer the new developments and training courses via NEXT by SintLucas to professionals . Think of SintLucas alumni and other employees within the media, gaming and entertainment sector, who want to remain relevant to the sector. In this way, we continue to realise leading education. Now and in the future. NEXT by SintLucas provides and develops (in-company) training courses for SMEs and professionals. You can read more about this on the next page.”
